For years, a night out in Fulshear meant a decision. Stay close and pick between a handful of familiar spots, or point the car east on FM 1093 toward Katy for anything more ambitious. That calculus is quietly breaking down this summer, and if you already live here you can feel it on a Saturday afternoon when the turn lanes onto Skyline Drive back up in a way they didn't a year ago.
The openings and announcements stacking up through the first half of 2026 aren't scattered across town. They cluster along a three-mile ribbon that runs from FM 1463 up through Texas Heritage Parkway and out to Skyline Drive. Read them as a group and a pattern shows up: Fulshear is building itself a stand-alone entertainment-and-services core, not another strip of drive-through pads.
The old theater block is becoming the anchor
The biggest single move happened on June 7, when the Xscape Theatres site went dark. Four days later, EVO Entertainment announced it had acquired the property and would redevelop it into a nearly 70,000-square-foot "entertainment destination," adding roughly 35,000 square feet with attractions like laser tag, climbing walls, bumper cars and gravity ropes. The existing cinema will also be renovated with the addition of two premium format screens.
That matters less as a movie story and more as a land-use story. A single-use theater is being replaced with a venue engineered to hold a family for three hours instead of ninety minutes, on a site that already has the parking and the traffic pattern to support it. It's the sort of investment that only pencils out when a developer thinks the surrounding rooftops can carry a mid-week weeknight, not just a Friday.
What actually opened while you were paying attention to something else
If you haven't done a slow drive down FM 1463 and Texas Heritage Parkway lately, the storefront turnover is worth a lap. Here's what came online in the first half of the year, most of it inside a ten-minute radius of Cross Creek Ranch:

A couple of these deserve a second look. Racket Social Club is not just another gym addition. Indoor padel courts with a pro shop and snack bar are the kind of thing that shows up in Austin and inside-the-Loop Houston first, and Fulshear now has them before most of Fort Bend. Turan Uyghur Kitchen is genuinely rare in Texas; Central Asian Uyghur cuisine has almost no footprint outside a few Houston strip centers, and it landed here instead of Sugar Land.
The Skyline Drive cluster is the tell
Zoom in on one road. Skyline Drive, which runs along the southern edge of Cross Creek Ranch, is where the second half of 2026 gets interesting.
The Back Nine Golf is going in at 6601 Skyline Drive, and Guava Asia Latin & Sushi is a $3.3 million build-out at 6519 Skyline Drive. Add a Texadelphia and a Brasil Acai registered in the same corridor, and you have four separate food-and-beverage projects moving into permit within a couple of blocks.
Then there's the piece that changes the character of the whole strip. A Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation clinic is planned for the Fulshear Gardens area, slated for Skyline Drive near the southern end of Cross Creek Ranch, bringing outpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy, and rehabilitation services closer to home. State filings indicate a roughly $950,000 build-out to convert about 6,300 square feet of existing shell space into the clinic, with completion targeted for the fall.
Restaurants come and go. A hospital system putting a rehab clinic in your zip code is a longer-dated bet.
That's the signal underneath the noise. When a system the size of Memorial Hermann commits to a build-out on Skyline Drive, they've already run the demographics and the drive-time studies. The clinic is a lagging indicator of how many rooftops are within a fifteen-minute reach, and it's a leading indicator of what the corridor will look like in three years.
What the new project pipeline says about what comes next
The registered-project list from the spring gives a preview of the next twelve to eighteen months. Reading between the line items:
- A Potbelly Sandwich Shop at 27125 Fulshear Bend Drive, with a build timeline running from October 2026 into late 2027
- Kiddie Academy - The Bend, a $3.68 million child care build with a timeline from November 2026 into May 2027
- Kalasphere Studios in Jordan Ranch this summer, a creative-activities studio
- Fulshear Harmony Dental at 8525 FM 359, with a build timeline of June through October
- Ikon Orthodontics at 2014 Texas Heritage Parkway
- Blast Off Carwash Jordan Crossing, a $3 million project running June through December
Notice the mix. Two dental practices, an orthodontist, a child care center, a car wash, a sandwich shop, a creative studio. That is not a tourist-district lineup. It's the everyday-services layer that fills in after the rooftops are already there and the residents get tired of driving to Katy for a cleaning or a Saturday-morning activity for a seven-year-old.
The liquor store detail worth knowing
One more small thing that says a lot. Skip's Beer Wine and Liquor leased a 2,500-square-foot space at Cross Creek Ranch West at FM 359 and Cross Creek West Boulevard, and a 2,734-square-foot store at Cross Creek Commons at FM 1463 and South Fry Road. The Cross Creek Ranch West location is estimated to be built out by early November with the Skip's store opening six months after. Skip's runs wine tastings and a monthly wine club where the team selects three bottles for members to taste.
Two stores from the same operator in the same small city, two miles apart, is a deliberate bet. Skip's isn't hedging on which end of Fulshear grows faster. They're planting a flag on both.
What hasn't changed, and why that matters
The reason all of this new construction has a chance of sticking is that the underlying amenity base was already strong. Cross Creek Ranch is a 3,200-acre community with on-site schools and planned amenities including water parks, tennis courts, a dog park, sports fields and more than 60 miles of hike-and-bike trails. An onsite professional Lifestyle Director facilitates more than 75 resident events each year out of 6450 Cross Creek Bend Lane.
The 2-mile Flewellen Creek meanders through roughly 150 acres of Cross Creek Ranch, with the restored nature area serving as a backdrop for Arbor Park and the Flewellen Creek Disc Golf Course. Adventure Island still has the 140-foot waterslide, pool volleyball, splash pad and lake views that anchor most July weekends.
The point isn't that any of this is new. It's that a community with 60 miles of trails, a disc golf course, and a resident-event calendar was still sending people to Katy for indoor entertainment, adult-league racket sports, and physical therapy. The new construction is closing that gap without touching what already worked.
And there's a road change that ties it together
The first 2-mile segment of the Westpark Tollway Extension opened February 28, delivering early traffic relief for Fulshear and Fort Bend County drivers, with the full project on track for 2026 completion. If you've been avoiding certain crosstown trips at 5:30 p.m., that's worth retesting. The commute math that drove a lot of "we'll just eat in Katy" decisions in 2024 is not the same commute math in 2026.
What this actually changes about a Saturday
Put it together and a Fulshear Saturday in August 2026 looks different than it did in August 2024. Morning walk on the Flewellen Creek trails, coffee, an hour at Racket Social Club, a bowl at Acai Brasil, a haircut, a school-of-rock lesson pickup, dinner at Turan Uyghur Kitchen or Hacienda Don Jose, and a movie at the reworked EVO. None of that requires FM 1093 eastbound.
That's the thesis worth holding onto. The story isn't a list of new logos. It's that the trip you used to take out of Fulshear on a Saturday is now a trip you can take inside it.
